West Windsor and Plainsboro both received sizeable grants from the state last week to help improve two notoriously shoddy roads.
Assemblywoman Linda Greenstein (D-Plainsboro) announced she secured a total of $1.4 million from the state for aid in transportation projects. Of that, $260,000 will go toward Plainsboro Road and $190,000 to Alexander Road's S-curve.
West Windsor Township Engineer Jim Parvesse said the grant money will be used to help pay for various improvements to Alexander Road between Canal Pointe Boulevard and the Princeton Township border.
He said these improvements will cost about $280,000 and include surface reconstruction, better drainage, more signs and increased bicycle and pedestrian accessibility.
Already, better lighting has been installed on the curve and it has been re-striped, he said.
According to Mr. Parvesse, the rest of the improvements are likely to be completed by next fall.
In Plainsboro, the grant money will go toward fixing Plainsboro Road between Dye Road and Enterprise Drive, Community Development Director Ernie Freeman said.
According to Mr. Freeman, the stretch of road is in "really bad shape" and will be resurfaced and re-striped.
He said work will likely begin in the spring.
